Practice Merger FAQ

 We have included some frequently asked questions below which may answer any queries you have about the merger. Updated information about the merger will be available on both medical practices’ websites and in each of the surgeries.

  1. When are you merging?

  1. What will the telephone numbers be?


We are planning to have one central telephone number, but until then our main telephone numbers are staying the same.

  1. When will the surgeries be open?


Opening times at Griffins Brook and Bunbury Road surgeries will stay the same. Patients can attend either site for their appointments.


  1. What happens if I need a GP outside normal hours?


There is no change. Please ring 111 or your usual surgery and a recorded message will tell you what you need to do next.





  1. How do I make an appointment?


Appointments can be booked online at or if you are unable to access the internet then telephone the surgery.


  1. Will I still be able to see my usual GP and nurse?


Yes. All of the GPs, nurses and healthcare assistants at both practices will still be available after the merger.


  1. I sometimes have appointments with specialist workers (e.g. counsellors, retinal screening, midwives and health visitors). Will I still be able to see them?


Yes. There is no change to booking appointments with these specialist workers.


  1. How do I get in touch with the District Nurses?


There is no change to how you can contact the District Nurses.


  1. What do I do if I need a home visit?


There is no change to how to book a home visit. Home visits are made for those who are too ill to attend the surgery. Whenever possible these should be requested before 10.30am.



  1. How do I order my repeat prescriptions?


There is no change to how you can order your repeat prescriptions.

If you have access to the internet then please use

If you cannot access the internet then please put your request in writing to either site.

Please allow 48 working hours for your prescription to be prepared.

  1. How do I collect my prescriptions?


There is no change to how you can collect your prescriptions. You can collect your prescription from the practice of your choice. You can also request that your prescription be sent to the pharmacist of your choice electronically.

  1. How do I get my results?


There is no change to how you can get your results. Please contact your surgery, but please avoid telephoning for results in the morning as this may block important requests for appointments or visits.





  1. What will happen about my annual reviews?


Both practices handle annual reviews differently, so there may be a change on how you are being recalled. We will ensure that you receive the annual reviews that you need, and we will send you reminders.


  1. What will happen about baby and childhood immunisations?


We will write to remind you when you need to bring your baby or child in for their immunisation injections.


  1. What will happen about my annual flu vaccination?


We will let you know when the flu clinics will be well in advance so that you have plenty of time to arrange an appointment.




  1. Can I still use SystmOnline?


Yes, you can still use SystmOnline to order repeat prescriptions and book appointments. However, due to IT issues over the merger period, we may not be able to offer online appointments for a short period. We apologise in advance for this slight disruption and we will keep you informed


  1. Will I still get text message reminders?





  1. Where will my medical records be stored?


Your original patient records will remain at either Griffins Brook or Bunbury Road.


  1. Will the Patient Participation Groups continue?


Yes the groups will continue and like the practices they will merge into one PPG.


  1. How will we keep in touch with patients?


Please continue to visit our website at  or  for the latest news. In time we will combined both websites into one and will provide more information when available. We will intend to publish a quarterly newsletter.
